Joyeux Noël
Bonjour! You have entered France. We are just getting ready for our Le Reveillon. What?!? You don't know what I am saying?? I'm speaking French! If you don't know French, you won't know our traditions. So I'm going to tell you all about France's traditions.
Before Christmas morning the children would put theres shoes by the cheminèe, for Pere Noèl to fill with sweets and treats. Pere Noèl is what we call our Santa. You Americans put your gifts under the Christmas tree, as we put them in the tree! At our churches we replay the birth of Christ. We use either players or puppets. Most homes here display Crèche or manger. These crèches are little clay characters called santons. These statues were past down from generations of ancestors from the 17th century.
We use a traditional Yule log-shaped cake also called in French buchè de noèl. Buchè de noèl means "Christmas log". This cake is used in a grand Christmas feast, called Le Reveillon. This feast is surprisingly held at midnight on Christmas Eve! Alsace, a city in France, has goose as the main course. In another city called Burgundy they have turkey as the main course. This feast also contains chicken, ham, fruit, Yule log cake, and wine.
Some French families have a cake with a bean hidden inside it, the person who finds it is considered King, or Queen of the day.
