Feliz Navidad
Hola! Can I offer you some Rosca De Reyes? You don't know what that is? Oh your from another country. Well while you're here I can tell you about what we Mexicans do for Christmas.
During our Christmas celebration we celebrate La Posada, which is a performance of the search for shelter for Mary and Joseph before Jesus' birth. People go from house to house showing pictures of them searching for the shelter.
Santa isn't necessarily a part of their Christmas celebration. Instead, the color red is, because of their flower of the season is the red poinsettia. There is a legend that says that a boy was going to a church to see the manger with baby Jesus. When he saw that he had no gift, he grabbed some branches. Everyone there laughed at him, but when he placed the branches by the manger, they bloomed the red poinsettia.
The kids break piñatas full of candy and receive gifts. On January sixth the Three Wise Men give a gift to children that are good up until that day.
In the northern part of Mexico Santo Clos, Santa Claus if you will, brings big gifts to the kids, while Reyes Magos brings small gifts.
All over Mexico, stores sell Rosca De Reyes and that is sweetbread with candied fruit decorated on it. Inside this sweetbread is a miniature figurine of baby Jesus is hidden so he could be born safely and he is hidden from King Herod. Whoever gets baby Jesus will be the host and will invite people to a celebration February 2nd, and because of this Christmas is extended until February 2nd, unlike the USA.
