Geseënde Kersfees
Hallo! We were just starting to go Christmas caroling when I saw you! Geseënde Kersfees! That is how we say Merry Christmas. I can tell you all the things we do here while we're caroling.
For Christmas we like to go Christmas caroling early in the morning. At around 8 or 9 o' clock (A.M.) we make way to the celebration to celebrate Jesus' birth. It is required for us to bring a gift to the celebration.
We have dinner in our front lawns, we even invite our friends and family! Christmas in the South Africa is held in the Summer for natural reasons.
Houses are decorated with branches made from pine. All houses here have a Christmas fir, or Christmas tree. Children hang stockings up for Father Christmas to fill. We have a special Christmas feast outside. Our traditional feast has either turkey, roast beef, mince pie, or suckling pig, rice with raisins, vegetables, and plum pudding. We even include a paper hat!
Families go out into the country and play games.
Boxing day is another one of our holidays. It is held up until December 26.
On Christmas Eve kids go outside, march, and shout out "Christus kom, Christus kom! hy is naby," which means in English, "Christ is coming, Christ is coming! He is near!" Songs are sung and plays are performed at churches decorated with Christmas trees and candles.
